The Death Metal formation ABRASIVE was founded by Ralf Köhler (git./vocals), Alex Ringwald (bass/screams) and Alexander Mäckle (drums) in April 1999, and a half year later they released their debut MCD “Victim” . The old school styled debut got good reviews, both, at home and also abroad, and they also took the chance to share the stage with bigger acts like DEMENTOR, HYPNOS, DISBELIEF, etc.

In 2002 the second MCD followed, entitled “Desire” . On this record, ABRASIVE started to mix their old school Death Metal roots with the US brutal Death Metal style a la SUFFOCATION or SEVERE TORURE, and before the end of the recording sessions of “Desire” , Björn Dähn , joined as a second guitar player. After releasing “Desire” , the band shared the stage again with bigger and established acts of the international Death Metal scene, such as SOILS OF FATE, DISAVOWED, VILE, FLESHLESS, GRAVE and they also played the Skull Fucked Fest in Strassbourg in 2002 and the Ludwigshafen Death Fest in 2003. After all, they sold 800 copies of their second output worldwide.

In the year 2004 NICE TO EAT YOU Records signed the band. So they released their first full length CD “Devotion” in December 2004 through this label. With this CD they followed their philosophy to mix Old School Death Metal and Brutal Death, but the Old School elements decreased even more than on “Desire” . The result was a gooving bastard of aggression and brutality with the typical ABRASIVE guitar lines. While Ralf Köhler had those typical Death Metal growls on “Desire” he invented also a more guttural style, which are completed by the screams of Alex Ringwald , and above all is the blast-beat-oriented drumming of Alexander Mäckle which gives the ABRASIVE sound the necessary power. Lyrically they followed their way, and setting their focus on erotic thoughts and fantasies. “Devotion” spread the name of the band out to the world and it got good reviews and a lot of interviews world wide. To promote the CD live on stage, ABRASIVE played a lot of shows inside and outside Germany (Soul Grinding Festival, Mountains of Death, 2 shows in Slovenia) in 2005.

Also Björn Dähn left the band and was replaced by Tobias Berger for a short time . So now ABRASIVE have become a three piece like in the beginning. In March 2006 Tino Lamprecht joined as second guitar palyer to bring back the live power as before. From the new songs you can expect the most brutal and sick stuff that ABRASIVE ever wrote. It is once again the combination of the powerful old school riffs, the slam riffs and the double vocals that makes ABRASIVE a unique band in today's Death Metal scene.

Das sehr Old School lastige Erstwerk wurde im Underground sehr wohlwollend aufgenommen, was dem Trio Liveauftritte mit renommierten Acts wie DEMENTOR, HYPNOS, DISBELIEF, etc. einbrachte.

Im Jahr 2002 folgte mit „Desire“ die zweite MCD. Auf dieser mischten ABRASIVE ihren Old School Death Metal mit brutalerem US Death Metal Sound a la SUFFOCATION oder SEVERE TORTURE. Zudem stieß vor der Endaufnahme zu „Desire“, im Mai 2001, Björn Dähn als zweiter Gitarrist zur Band. Nach der Veröffentlichung von „Desire“ promotete die Band ihre MCD nach allen Kräften. Sie konnten positive Kritiken im In- und Ausland einfahren, spielten mit etablierten Acts wie SOILS OF FATE, DISAVOWED, VILE, FLESHLESS, GRAVE und u.a. auch auf dem Skull Fucked Fest in Strassburg (2002) und dem Ludwigshafener Deathfest (2003). Insgesamt wurden 800 Kopien ihres Zweitwerkes weltweit verkauft.

NICE TO EAT YOU Records nahm die Band 2004 unter Vertrag, um im Dezember die CD “Devotion” zu veröffentlichen. Mit dieser CD folgten die vier Jungs weiter ihrer Philosophie, Old School Death Metal und Brutal Death zu mischen, wobei der Old School Anteil noch weiter zurück ging. Heraus kam ein groovender Bastard aus Aggression und Brutalität gespickt mit den typischen ABRASIVE –Lines. Auf „Devotion“ setzt Ralf Köhler sowohl die typischen Growls, wie auf „Desire“ , als auch guttural Vocals ein. Diese werden durch die Screams von Bassist Alex Ringwald ergänzt. Über allem thront das blast orientierte Drumming von Alexander Mäckle , das dem ABRASIVE Sound seinen nötigen Druck gibt. Lyrisch folgte man dem eingeschlagenen Weg und setzt auf erotische Gedanken und Fantasien. Mit “Devotion” erreichte man jetzt noch mehr Aufmerksamkeit weltweit und bekam eine Menge guter Kritiken und Interviews. Um die CD auch auf der Bühne zu promoten, spielten ABRASIVE 2005 viele Konzerte sowohl im In- als auch im Ausland (Soul Grinding Festival, Mountains of Death, 2 Konzerte in Slowenien).

Außerdem verließ Björn Dähn die Band und wurde für kurze Zeit durch Tobias Berger ersetzt. Ab Dezember 2005 sind ABRASIVE wieder zu einem Trio, wie in den Anfangstagen, geschrumpft. Ab März 2006 hat man mit Tino Lamprecht wieder einen neuen Gitarristen an Board geholt, um die Songs auch live wieder im gewohnten Sound präsentieren zu können. Die neu entstandenen Songs sind das brutalste und sickeste, das ABRASIVE je geschrieben haben. Wieder einmal ist es die Kombination aus Old School Riffs, Slam Riffs und dem Doppelgesang, die ABRASIVE zu einer einzigartigen Band in der heutigen Death Metal Szene macht.
